Popular Android cleanup app Clean Master is now available in a free PC edition.

Clean Master for Windows concentrates solely on cleanup tasks, removing leftovers from your hard drive and the Registry. Unlike its Android cousin, there’s no management of running processes or antivirus component.

Fortunately the cleaner is so good this really isn’t an issue, as it provides in-depth support for locating system, application, Windows 8 app and other junk files.

We found scanning to be quick (30 seconds or less on our test PC). The reports were detailed, and you’re able to tell Clean Master just what you’d like it to delete or ignore.

The program’s recommendations weren’t always the best, as for example by default it would have deleted our Prefetch files. But that can be fixed, and even excluding those issues it still regularly freed up more space than CCleaner on our test PC.

Once Clean Master is configured, it proved very easy to use. You can have it set up to scan your PC automatically at intervals between one day and two weeks, automatically alerting you when discovered junk exceeds some defined figure. Or you can run it manually, which may still take just a couple of clicks.

Clean Master doesn’t offer anything close to the fine tuning you get with CCleaner, but that’s hardly a surprise for version 1.0, and even now it’s already outperforming most of the freeware competition. Give it a try, see how the program compares with your current cleanup tool.
